how a discussion society works

select
  • Open Registration begins six weeks before the start of a discussion society.

  • Registrants are surveyed on their principle public policy concerns and the top twelve become the course of debates.

  • Participants submit ideas on the policy subjects as soon as the list is finalized.



prepare
  • The Knowledge Base is loaded with information regarding the policy subjects.

  • Hosting locations publish their Schedules of Availability.

  • Society members reserve a seat at the table of their choice for each week's debate. They can attend the same group each week or change among them.

study
  • Society members prepare for the weekly debates using their own resources and the online Knowledge Base.

  • The audience will be small and friendly so participants can focus on explaining their position as well as they can.


discuss
  • Members attend at least one conversation sit-down per week.

  • The sit-downs are unmoderated and last fifty-five minutes. Each member gives a brief statement of their position and takes questions.




evaluate
  • Participants finish each debate with a final position statement.

  • The results from all participants are compiled and reported and then integrated into the Knowledge base.
